1BBL Brewery

10/23/12

I've been a bit lax on updating this site. I apologize. I was able to get the stand painted and primed, a new control panel built, and some fittings placed in the brew kettle. Looking back it doesn't look like I updated about the control panel. It turns out that the panel was too small to fit all of the components inside. I was forced to buy something a bit larger. Once that came, I punched the holes, painted, and mounted the lights and switches. Now it's off getting wired up by a professional. I don't feel comfortable wiring something that can kill me if done improperly.

Most of the fabrication is now done. It will mostly be purchasing fittings at this point. I have to prepare myself for some pain as stainless tri clamp fittings are EXPENSIVE!!! I know everyone loves pictures, so without further adoo..

As an aside, If anyone is interested, I have a gorgeous humidor and matching table for sale. 550.

Got the stand completed. Time to prime and paint the stand this weekend. I got the tippy dump secured using a lock pin and cleaned the stand up to prepare it for primer.

Worked quite a bit last night on the stand. Got the tippy dump complete. Just have to clean it up. I plan on priming and painting everything this weekend. I purchases some Rustoleum Industrial Enamel in Black. Hoping that it is strong enough to resist chipping. Once this is all complete. I will start working on getting the fittings mounted in the Boil Kettle. Then I will be in the home stretch. I'll just need to buy. The fabrication portion will be done!

Just got back from the Finger Lakes yesterday afternoon. Had a great time! Lot's of wine and beer was drunk. Now time to detox for a few days. My poor liver needs a break. I was able to work a bit more on the stand and finished welding and almost finished grinding the welds. All that is left to do is mount the pump and make a mount for a future plate chiller. I will be receiving the rings needed to make the bracket for the tippy dump tonight. I can then start working on getting that together.

I'll be working on it a bit more tomorrow.

Worked a bit more this weekend. I got the heatsink mounted on the panel and did some trimming so I can fit different components a bit better. It is now with my brother in law to do the wiring. Since it's 240v, I trust him as an electrician to do it. I welded a few more items to the stand and decided to forgo the tippy dump idea I came up with and went with the MoreBeer design. I think it will work out better that way. I also started to grind down the welds so I can prime and paint. I'm hoping to do that this week. Of course that's if everything goes to plan.

9/21/12 Received the new MT and HLT!!!! So shiny!

9/17/12 Made a bit more progress!
Brewery 2.0!

You'll see on the front page a picture of my old brewery. It has since been sold and I am working on a new one. It will be a close replica of the MoreBeer 2050. I will be using bigger kettles and a different tippy dump design. I have had a chance to work on it the past two nights and have a solid start.

I'll update the progress as I make it.

  1. Was able to get some more welding done on the brewery last night. I got the second side constructed. I ran out of steel so I ordered more. Won't be any more progress until atleast next week on the stand. In the mean time, I will start putting the control panel together.

  2. Wow! You did a really cool job on the tippy dump and brewery. It’s amazing how you did that mostly on your own! I look forward to what you’ll make out of these and also the DIY projects you’ll do.

  3. Hi Brent! It’s amazing that you did all these! I think it’s cool that you made, and have, your own brewery. Imagine all the things you could make from there! I shall check out for your updated posts next time too!

  4. Kai,

Thanks for the kind words!! It brings a huge sense of accomplishment everytime I look at it. I still can't believe that I did it. Guess it goes to show if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. I have brewed three times on it and each one has come out amazing. I'm so happy with it so far.
